Activity Two B: Skills developed through my degree

You now have a more expanded database of evidence of skills that are central to and valued in a wide range of fields and careers (including academia!). Taking a process-oriented approach shows you the range of work that you do on a daily basis. In addition to being empowering ("I do have experience! I do have skills!"), it gives you a great starting point for the following activities:

• Evaluating what kinds of fields and roles you might be interested in after you graduate (Career Decision-Making in CareerHub)
• Analyzing the kinds of roles you are qualified for, inside (Academic applications and interviews section) and outside academia (Find Work section)
• Articulating how the work that you have done as a graduate student qualifies you to do those roles with specific examples in application documents such as résumés (Building a great resume to transition from academia to industry) and cover letters
• Telling the story of how your experiences in graduate school qualify you for those roles in interview and networking situations

Your experience in graduate school is PROFESSIONAL experience-it's up to you to find and tell the story of the links between the work that you do here and the kinds of work and roles you are interested in after you leave.
